Club Bâtard, the Hong Kong-born private members’ club renowned for its access to gourmets, curated events, and exceptional wine selection at retail prices, has announced its first expansion beyond the city with a new clubhouse at Cha House in Jing’an, Shanghai. Membership applications are open, with the club scheduled to open later this year.
Club Bâtard’s new home, Cha House, began in the 1920s as a private mansion for brothers QIU Xinshan and QIU Weiqing, wealthy dye merchants in Shanghai.
The club will occupy all three floors of this standalone heritage villa in the heart of Jing’an – Shanghai’s nexus of commerce, culture, and luxury lifestyle.
The interior, designed by Joyce Wang Studio – which was also responsible for the Hong Kong venue – has reimagined the layout to create distinct experiences on each level.
Members can browse multiple wine cellars at their own pace. They can discover rare bottles from direct relationships with top estates around the world and carry a selection straight to their table.
As with Club Bâtard Hong Kong, wines are offered at retail prices, meaning members can enjoy their wine purchases without the usual restaurant markups.
“Quality is at the front of our minds, but so too is value. One reason Club Bâtard succeeded in Hong Kong was the trust we built with members – that we would always reward their loyalty by repaying it in kind. We show that through menu prices, wine prices, and access to special offers,” said Club Bâtard Co-founder Michael Wu.

“While we are first and foremost a wine club, food has always been at the centre of Club Bâtard. It’s the marriage of the two that sets off the experience. We demonstrated this in Hong Kong, and we look forward to sharing this love for every plate with members in Shanghai,” said Club Bâtard Co-founder Randy See.
The culinary programme of Club Bâtard Shanghai spans five concepts. While further details on all chefs will be announced at a later date, the club has shared a preview of the outlets.
Blanc – Contemporary French dining led by a 3-Star Michelin chef from Asia, widely regarded as one of the most accomplished culinary talents in the region. His cooking is precise and restrained, defined not by luxury ingredients but by craft.
The Garden – An alfresco garden dining experience with a breezy outdoor terrace shaded by umbrellas and rattan chairs, evoking a European ease reminiscent of the French Riviera. This is the setting for simple, ingredient-led dining alongside a fine bottle, also under the same 3-Star Michelin chef from Asia.
Cha Xuan – The Cantonese restaurant is helmed by a chef from Hong Kong trained at one of Asia’s most revered Cantonese addresses. This kitchen is rooted in traditional technique and defined by an obsessive devotion to sourcing the finest ingredients.
Cabotte – An all-day dining restaurant open from 8am to late night, offering refined international delicacies from breakfast through to supper. As evening falls, the space transforms into a lounge with cocktails and a relaxed after-dark atmosphere.
OBE – A whisky bar dedicated to showcasing a rare collection of whiskies from around the world. With its intimate setting and carefully curated selection of bottles, this is a sanctuary for those serious about their spirits.
