Plum Garden • Nanjing

Nanjing Jinling Hotel opened on 4 October 1983. At 110 metres, its 37 storeys made it the tallest building in China in the 1980s. Such has been the breakneck surge in that country’s economy and infrastructure the Jinling is not even amongst the top 40 highest buildings in today’s Nanjing.

China has the most skyscrapers of any country in the world. As of 2023, it counted more than 3,000 buildings above 150 metres. At 632 metres, the Shanghai Tower is the tallest building in China and the third highest in the world, behind Merdeka 118 (678.9 m) in Kuala Lumpur, and Burg Khalifa (828 m) in Dubai.

Through the years, oversea and Chinese dignitaries have been accommodated at the Jinling. Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel stayed on 28 August 2007. A decade before that, DENG Xiaoping slept at the Jinling on 17 February 1997.

Plum Garden is the Jinling’s premier restaurant and specialises in Huaiyang cuisine although it also incorporates dishes from other branches of Chinese cooking. Nanjing cuisine itself is a mishmash of regional styles.

Plum Garden is the go-to culinary choice when Nanjing officials want to impress visiting guests. Located on level two, the restaurant has a capacity of 150 seats. Reservations are highly recommended. The Jinling Hotel Group was established in December 2002 and listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange in 2007. The stock code is 601007.
