A Fifth‑Generation Vision • Chateau des Moriers

Anne‑Victoire Monrozier, Fifth-Generation Proprietor of Chateau des Moriers

In the northern reaches of Beaujolais, Chateau des Moriers has belonged to the same family since 1855. For five generations, custodians have tended its vines with patience, pride, and an intimate understanding of the land.

Today, the estate is in the hands of Fifth-Generation Proprietor Anne‑Victoire Monrozier – known to friends and colleagues as Vicky. Together with her husband Christian Seely, she is steering this historic property into an era of renewed energy and creativity.

Monrozier’s approach to winemaking is both respectful and restless. She honours the old vines – some are over 65 years – that produce structured, age‑worthy Gamay, yet she is equally drawn to exploring fresh expressions of the wine.

“I love to create new wines, express our terroir and swing in between our old vines classic to the more contemporary Vicky’s range,” said Anne‑Victoire Monrozier. “We have a great terroir on the cru Fleurie, going to become a Premier Cru.”

That imminent upgrade is no small matter. In 2023, over 85% of Fleurie winegrowers voted to submit seven lieux‑dits (named vineyard sites) for Premier Cru classification – with Les Moriers proudly among them.

Chateau des Moriers has belonged to the Monrozier Family since 1855, spanning five generations. Some of the vines are over 65 years old.

Although Anne‑Victoire Monrozier was born in Paris, she grew up spending much of her time among the family vineyards at Chateau des Moriers. She was just three years young in this picture.

Alongside Monrozier stands her husband, Christian Seely. A towering figure in the wine world, Seely is the longtime Managing Director of AXA Millésimes, the portfolio behind Chateau Pichon Baron, Chateau Suduiraut, Quinta do Noval, and other legendary names.

Beyond the classic Gamay wines, Monrozier has also created Fleurie O Joie – a 25cl Gamay presented in a can. It is playful, portable, and unapologetically modern, yet it remains unmistakably Fleurie, with the same granite‑driven freshness as its bottled siblings.
