Alexandra Pereyre de Nonancourt and Stephanie Meneux de Nonancourt, co‑CEOs of Champagne Laurent‑Perrier, have been named Wine Family of the Year 2026 by Meininger Verlag, one of the world’s most respected publishing houses for wine and spirits.

The honour marks the first time in the award’s history that it has been bestowed upon two sisters.

Founded in 2004, Meininger Verlag’s Excellence in Wine & Spirit Award is presented annually to international leaders in the wine and spirits world, with the Wine Family of the Year category especially prized for its focus on multigenerational dedication.

Alexandra and Stephanie are the daughters of the late Bernard de Nonancourt (1920–2010), the charismatic figure who led Laurent‑Perrier to become one of the world’s largest champagne estates.

Taking the reins of a privately owned maison with more than 200 years of history is no small task, yet the sisters have done so with remarkable harmony. “It’s essential to share the same vision within the family,” they shared in a joint interview in February 2026, describing how they honour their father’s legacy while modernising the estate.

With this latest honour, Alexandra and Stephanie join a distinguished roster of past winners, including the Niepoort Family of Niepoort Vinhos in the Douro Valley, the Planeta Family of Planeta Winery in Sicily, and the Lunelli Family of Ferrari Winery in Trentino.

The late Bernard de Nonancourt (1920–2010) joined the family-owned Champagne Laurent‑Perrier in 1945. Under his visionary leadership, the house grew to become one of the world’s largest champagne estates. Nonancourt was also a bold innovator. In 1960, he launched the prestige cuvée Grand Siècle, breaking with tradition by blending wines from three different vintage years to achieve a consistent product of exceptional quality – regardless of nature’s seasonal variations.

One of Bernard de Nonancourt’s greatest legacies is Grand Siècle. Aficionados and journalists alike regard and acknowledge Laurent-Perrier’s prestige cuvée as one of the greatest expressions of Champagne.

Created in the 1950s, the thinking behind Grand Siècle is as clear – or grey – as a Champagne day. Anyone who has visited Champagne will know how temperamental the weather can be.

Knowing full well the vagaries of the weather and how Champagne can deliver such vast differences from one vintage to the next, Bernard de Nonancourt realised that Nature was too unpredictable and unreliable to produce an outstanding Champagne every year. But what if you were able to choose from not one but three years which complemented each other perfectly?

Launched in 1959, the first Grand Siècle comprised the vintages of 1952, 1953 and 1955. Each vintage, good enough on its own, was even better with the others.

As befits the bearing and status of the creator himself, Grand Siècle is also available in magnum. After all, Nonancourt once said that  “A magnum is the perfect size when the other person is not drinking”.
